Exodus 17: 3-7
3 But the people were thirsty for water there, and they grumbled against
Moses. They said, "Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to make us and our
children and livestock die of thirst?" 4 Then Moses cried out to
the LORD, "What am I to do with these people? They are almost ready to
stone me." 5 The LORD answered Moses, "Walk on ahead of the
people. Take with you some of the elders of Israel and take in your hand the
staff with which you struck the Nile, and go. 6 I will stand there
before you by the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it
for the people to drink." So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of
Israel. 7 And he called the place Massah and Meribah because the
Israelites quarreled and because they tested the LORD saying, "Is the LORD
among us or not?"
Exodus 23: 20
"See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to
bring you to the place I have prepared.

Hear, O heavens! Listen, O earth! For the LORD has spoken: "I reared

but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on
wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be

Isaiah 43: 1-2
1 But now, this is what the LORD says-- he who created you, O Jacob, he
who formed you, O Israel: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have
summoned you by name; you are mine. 2 When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep
over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames
will not set you ablaze.
Luke 2: 12-14
12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths
and lying in a manger."13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly
host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 "Glory to
God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."
Luke 19: 38
"Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!" "Peace
in heaven and glory in the highest!"
Ephesians 6: 12
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers,
against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the
spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Job 1, 2
1 In the land of Uz there lived a man whose name was Job. This man was
blameless and upright; he feared God and shunned evil. 2 He had seven
sons and three daughters, 3 and he owned seven thousand sheep, three
thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen and five hundred donkeys, and had a
large number of servants. He was the greatest man among all the people of the
East. 4 His sons used to take turns holding feasts in their homes, and
they would invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them. 5 When
a period of feasting had run its course, Job would send and have them purified.
Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them,
thinking, "Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their
hearts." This was Job's regular custom. 6 One day the angels came
to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came with them. 7
The LORD said to Satan, "Where have you come from?" Satan answered
the LORD, "From roaming through the earth and going back and forth in
it." 8 Then the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my
servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a
man who fears God and shuns evil." 9 "Does Job fear God for
nothing?" Satan replied. 10 "Have you not put a hedge around
him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his
hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land. 11
But stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely
curse you to your face." 12 The LORD said to Satan, "Very
well, then, everything he has is in your hands, but on the man himself do not
lay a finger." Then Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.
13 One day when Job's sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine
at the oldest brother's house, 14 a messenger came to Job and said,
"The oxen were plowing and the donkeys were grazing nearby, 15 and
the Sabeans attacked and carried them off. They put the servants to the sword,
and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!" 16 While he was
still speaking, another messenger came and said, "The fire of God fell
from the sky and burned up the sheep and the servants, and I am the only one
who has escaped to tell you!" 17 While he was still speaking,
another messenger came and said, "The Chaldeans formed three raiding
parties and swept down on your camels and carried them off. They put the
servants to the sword, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!"
18 While he was still speaking, yet another messenger came and said,
"Your sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest
brother's house, 19 when suddenly a mighty wind swept in from the desert
and struck the four corners of the house. It collapsed on them and they are
dead, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!" 20 At
this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the
ground in worship 21 and said: "Naked I came from my mother's womb,
and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the
name of the LORD be praised." 22 In all this, Job did not sin by
charging God with wrongdoing.
Chapter 2
1 On another day the angels came to present themselves before the LORD,
and Satan also came with them to present himself before him. 2 And the
LORD said to Satan, "Where have you come from?" Satan answered the
LORD, "From roaming through the earth and going back and forth in
it." 3 Then the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my
servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a
man who fears God and shuns evil. And he still maintains his integrity, though
you incited me against him to ruin him without any reason." 4
"Skin for skin!" Satan replied. "A man will give all he has for
his own life. 5 But stretch out your hand and strike his flesh and
bones, and he will surely curse you to your face." 6 The LORD said
to Satan, "Very well, then, he is in your hands; but you must spare his
life." 7 So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD and
afflicted Job with painful sores from the soles of his feet to the top of his
head. 8 Then Job took a piece of broken pottery and scraped himself with
it as he sat among the ashes. 9 His wife said to him, "Are you
still holding on to your integrity? Curse God and die!" 10 He
replied, "You are talking like a foolish woman. Shall we accept good from
God, and not trouble?" In all this, Job did not sin in what he said.
11 When Job's three friends, Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite
and Zophar the Naamathite, heard about all the troubles that had come upon him,
they set out from their homes and met together by agreement to go and
sympathize with him and comfort him. 12 When they saw him from a
distance, they could hardly recognize him; they began to weep aloud, and they
tore their robes and sprinkled dust on their heads. 13 Then they sat on
the ground with him for seven days and seven nights. No one said a word to him,
because they saw how great his suffering was.
Zechariah 3: 1-7
1 Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of
the LORD, and Satan standing at his right side to accuse him. 2 The LORD
said to Satan, "The LORD rebuke you, Satan! The LORD, who has chosen
Jerusalem, rebuke you! Is not this man a burning stick snatched from the
fire?" 3 Now Joshua was dressed in filthy clothes as he stood
before the angel. 4 The angel said to those who were standing before
him, "Take off his filthy clothes." Then he said to Joshua,
"See, I have taken away your sin, and I will put rich garments on
you." 5 Then I said, "Put a clean turban on his head." So
they put a clean turban on his head and clothed him, while the angel of the
LORD stood by. 6 The angel of the LORD gave this charge to Joshua:
7 "This is what the LORD Almighty says: `If you will walk in my
ways and keep my requirements, then you will govern my house and have charge of
my courts, and I will give you a place among these standing here.
Revelation 5: 1-14
1 Then I saw in the right hand of him who sat on the throne a scroll
with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seals. 2 And I saw a
mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, "Who is worthy to break the
seals and open the scroll?" 3 But no one in heaven or on earth or
under the earth could open the scroll or even look inside it. 4 I wept
and wept because no one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or look
inside. 5 Then one of the elders said to me, "Do not weep! See, the
Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to
open the scroll and its seven seals." 6 Then I saw a Lamb, looking
as if it had been slain, standing in the center of the throne, encircled by the
four living creatures and the elders. He had seven horns and seven eyes, which
are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. 7 He came and
took the scroll from the right hand of him who sat on the throne. 8 And
when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell
down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls
full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. 9 And they sang a
new song: "You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals,
because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from
every tribe and language and people and nation. 10 You have made them to
be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the
earth." 11 Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels,
numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They
encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. 12 In a
loud voice they sang: "Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power
and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!"
13 Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the
earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing: "To him who sits
on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever
and ever!" 14 The four living creatures said, "Amen," and
the elders fell down and worshiped.
Isaiah 6: 1-8
1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne,
high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2 Above
him were seraphs, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces,
with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. 3 And
they were calling to one another: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty;
the whole earth is full of his glory." 4 At the sound of their
voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.
5 "Woe to me!" I cried. "I am ruined! For I am a man of
unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen
the King, the LORD Almighty." 6 Then one of the seraphs flew to me
with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar.
7 With it he touched my mouth and said, "See, this has touched your
lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for." 8 Then I
heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go
for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!"
Ezekiel 1: 22-28
22 Spread out above the heads of the living creatures was what looked
like an expanse, sparkling like ice, and awesome. 23 Under the expanse
their wings were stretched out one toward the other, and each had two wings
covering its body. 24 When the creatures moved, I heard the sound of
their wings, like the roar of rushing waters, like the voice of the Almighty,
like the tumult of an army. When they stood still, they lowered their wings.
25 Then there came a voice from above the expanse over their heads as
they stood with lowered wings. 26 Above the expanse over their heads was
what looked like a throne of sapphire, and high above on the throne was a
figure like that of a man. 27 I saw that from what appeared to be his
waist up he looked like glowing metal, as if full of fire, and that from there
down he looked like fire; and brilliant light surrounded him. 28 Like
the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the radiance
around him. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD.
When I saw it, I fell facedown, and I heard the voice of one speaking.
Isaiah 9: 5-6
5 Every warrior's boot used in battle and every garment rolled in blood
will be destined for burning, will be fuel for the fire. 6 For to us a
child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his
shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting
Father, Prince of Peace.
Genesis 3: 1-6
1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD
God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, `You must not eat
from any tree in the garden'?" 2 The woman said to the serpent,
"We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say,
`You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and
you must not touch it, or you will die.'" 4 "You will not
surely die," the serpent said to the woman. 5 "For God knows
that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God,
knowing good and evil." 6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the
tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining
wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was
with her, and he ate it.
Luke 4: 3
The devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to
become bread."
Revelation 20: 10
And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur,
where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented
day and night for ever and ever.
2 Peter 2: 4
For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell,
putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment;
Jude 6
And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned
their own home--these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains
for judgment on the great Day.
John 12: 31-32
31 Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this
world will be driven out. 32 But I, when I am lifted up from the earth,
will draw all men to myself."
Revelation 6: 1
I watched as the Lamb opened the first of the seven seals. Then I heard one of
the four living creatures say in a voice like thunder, "Come!"
Revelation 7: 2, 13-14
2 Then I saw another angel coming up from the east, having the seal of
the living God. He called out in a loud voice to the four angels who had been
given power to harm the land and the sea: 13 Then one of the elders
asked me, "These in white robes--who are they, and where did they come
from?" 14 I answered, "Sir, you know." And he said,
"These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have
washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
Acts 2: 29-36
29 "Brothers, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David
died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day. 30 But he was a
prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of
his descendants on his throne. 31 Seeing what was ahead, he spoke of the
resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to the grave, nor did his
body see decay. 32 God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all
witnesses of the fact. 33 Exalted to the right hand of God, he has
received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you
now see and hear. 34 For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he
said, "`The Lord said to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand 35
until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet."' 36
"Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus,
whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ."
Romans 8: 31-39
31 What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who
can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up
for us all--how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all
things? 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen?
It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who
died--more than that, who was raised to life--is at the right hand of God and
is also interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of
Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or
danger or sword? 36 As it is written: "For your sake we face death
all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered." 37 No,
in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor
demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither
height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate
us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Mark 1: 27
The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, "What is this? A
new teaching--and with authority! He even gives orders to evil spirits and they
obey him."
Mark 2: 10
But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive
sins...." He said to the paralytic,
Mark 3: 22-27
22 And the teachers of the law who came down from Jerusalem said,
"He is possessed by Beelzebub ! By the prince of demons he is driving out
demons." 23 So Jesus called them and spoke to them in parables:
"How can Satan drive out Satan? 24 If a kingdom is divided against
itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 If a house is divided against
itself, that house cannot stand. 26 And if Satan opposes himself and is
divided, he cannot stand; his end has come. 27 In fact, no one can enter
a strong man's house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the
strong man. Then he can rob his house.
Philippians 2: 7-11
7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being
made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he
humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross! 9
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is
above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in
heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
John 17: 15-17
15 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you
protect them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, even as I
am not of it. 17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.
Revelation 2: 10-14
10 Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the
devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer
persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will
give you the crown of life. 11 He who has an ear, let him hear what the
Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes will not be hurt at all by the
second death. 12 "To the angel of the church in Pergamum write:
These are the words of him who has the sharp, double-edged sword. 13 I
know where you live--where Satan has his throne. Yet you remain true to my
name. You did not renounce your faith in me, even in the days of Antipas, my
faithful witness, who was put to death in your city--where Satan lives.
14 Nevertheless, I have a few things against you: You have people there
who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to entice the Israelites
to sin by eating food sacrificed to idols and by committing sexual immorality.
Revelation 3: 10-12
10 Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep
you from the hour of trial that is going to come upon the whole world to test
those who live on the earth. 11 I am coming soon. Hold on to what you
have, so that no one will take your crown. 12 Him who overcomes I will
make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will he leave it. I will
write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new
Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also
write on him my new name.
1 John 5: 4,5
4 for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that
has overcome the world, even our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the
world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.
John 12: 25
The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in
this world will keep it for eternal life.
Matthew 10: 39
Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake
will find it.
Mark 8: 35
For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for
me and for the gospel will save it.
Deuteronomy 32: 1, 10, 11
1 Listen, O heavens, and I will speak; hear, O earth, the words of my
mouth. 10 In a desert land he found him, in a barren and howling waste.
He shielded him and cared for him; he guarded him as the apple of his eye,
11 like an eagle that stirs up its nest and hovers over its young, that
spreads its wings to catch them and carries them on its pinions.
1 Peter 3: 20, 21
20 who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah
while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were
saved through water, 21 and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves
you also--not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good
conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
Numbers 16: 1-3, 28-34
1 Korah son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and certain
Reubenites--Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab, and On son of Peleth--became
insolent 2 and rose up against Moses. With them were 250 Israelite men,
well-known community leaders who had been appointed members of the council.
3 They came as a group to oppose Moses and Aaron and said to them,
"You have gone too far! The whole community is holy, every one of them,
and the LORD is with them. Why then do you set yourselves above the LORD's
assembly?" 28 Then Moses said, "This is how you will know that
the LORD has sent me to do all these things and that it was not my idea:
29 If these men die a natural death and experience only what usually
happens to men, then the LORD has not sent me. 30 But if the LORD brings
about something totally new, and the earth opens its mouth and swallows them,
with everything that belongs to them, and they go down alive into the grave,
then you will know that these men have treated the LORD with contempt."
31 As soon as he finished saying all this, the ground under them split
apart 32 and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them, with their
households and all Korah's men and all their possessions. 33 They went
down alive into the grave, with everything they owned; the earth closed over
them, and they perished and were gone from the community. 34 At their
cries, all the Israelites around them fled, shouting, "The earth is going
to swallow us too!"
Revelation 13: 1, 11
1 And the dragon stood on the shore of the sea. And I saw a beast coming
out of the sea. He had ten horns and seven heads, with ten crowns on his horns,
and on each head a blasphemous name. 11 Then I saw another beast, coming
out of the earth. He had two horns like a lamb, but he spoke like a dragon.
Revelation 3: 1
"To the angel of the church in Sardis write: These are the words of him
who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you
have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead.
