Test everything. Hold on to the good.
James 5:19-20

in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

For nothing is impossible with God."

21 From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he
must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief
priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third
day be raised to life. 22 Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.
"Never, Lord!" he said. "This shall never happen to you!"

Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.
Hebrews 11: 35-40
35 Women received back their dead, raised to life again. Others were
tortured and refused to be released, so that they might gain a better
resurrection. 36 Some faced jeers and flogging, while still others were
chained and put in prison. 37 They were stoned ; they were sawed in two;
they were put to death by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and
goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated-- 38 the world was not
worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, and in caves and holes
in the ground. 39 These were all commended for their faith, yet none of
them received what had been promised. 40 God had planned something
better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.
Genesis 1: 26, 27
26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness,
and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the
livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the
ground." 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of
God he created him; male and female he created them.
2 Corinthians 6: 16, 18
16 What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we
are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will live with them
and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people."
18 "I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and

Ephesians 2: 8-10
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not

can boast. 10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to
do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

crucified.

Gentiles,
Romans 3: 10-18
10 As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one;
11 there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. 12 All
have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does
good, not even one." 13 "Their throats are open graves; their
tongues practice deceit." "The poison of vipers is on their
lips." 14 "Their mouths are full of cursing and

ruin and misery mark their ways, 17 and the way of peace they do not
know." 18 "There is no fear of God before their eyes."
Mark 12: 29-31
29 "The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this:

your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and
with all your strength.' 31 The second is this: `Love your neighbor as
yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these."

the proud but gives grace to the humble."
Isaiah 14: 10-15
10 They will all respond, they will say to you, "You also have
become weak, as we are; you have become like us." 11 All your pomp
has been brought down to the grave, along with the noise of your harps; maggots
are spread out beneath you and worms cover you. 12 How you have fallen
from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the
earth, you who once laid low the nations! 13 You said in your heart,
"I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I
will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the
sacred mountain. 14 I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will
make myself like the Most High." 15 But you are brought down to the
grave, to the depths of the pit.
John 17: 7, 12

that Scripture would be fulfilled.

is a liar and the father of lies.
Matthew 23: 16, 27
16 "Woe to you, blind guides! You say, `If anyone swears by the
temple, it means nothing; but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is

on the outside but on the inside are full of dead men's bones and everything
unclean.

All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our

Acts 5: 33
When they heard this, they were furious and wanted to put them to death.
Acts 7: 54
When they heard this, they were furious and gnashed their teeth at him.
Acts 22
1 "Brothers and fathers, listen now to my defense." 2
When they heard him speak to them in Aramaic, they became very quiet. Then Paul
said: 3 "I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in
this city. Under Gamaliel I was thoroughly trained in the law of our fathers
and was just as zealous for God as any of you are today. 4 I persecuted
the followers of this Way to their death, arresting both men and women and
throwing them into prison, 5 as also the high priest and all the Council
can testify. I even obtained letters from them to their brothers in Damascus,
and went there to bring these people as prisoners to Jerusalem to be punished.
6 "About noon as I came near Damascus, suddenly a bright light from
heaven flashed around me. 7 I fell to the ground and heard a voice say
to me, `Saul! Saul! Why do you persecute me?' 8 "`Who are you,
Lord?' I asked. "`I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you are persecuting,' he
replied. 9 My companions saw the light, but they did not understand the
voice of him who was speaking to me. 10 "`What shall I do, Lord?' I
asked. "`Get up,' the Lord said, `and go into Damascus. There you will be
told all that you have been assigned to do.' 11 My companions led me by
the hand into Damascus, because the brilliance of the light had blinded me.
12 "A man named Ananias came to see me. He was a devout observer of
the law and highly respected by all the Jews living there. 13 He stood
beside me and said, `Brother Saul, receive your sight!' And at that very moment
I was able to see him. 14 "Then he said: `The God of our fathers
has chosen you to know his will and to see the Righteous One and to hear words
from his mouth. 15 You will be his witness to all men of what you have
seen and heard. 16 And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized
and wash your sins away, calling on his name.' 17 "When I returned
to Jerusalem and was praying at the temple, I fell into a trance 18 and
saw the Lord speaking. `Quick!' he said to me. `Leave Jerusalem immediately,
because they will not accept your testimony about me.' 19 "`Lord,'
I replied, `these men know that I went from one synagogue to another to
imprison and beat those who believe in you. 20 And when the blood of
your martyr Stephen was shed, I stood there giving my approval and guarding the
clothes of those who were killing him.' 21 "Then the Lord said to
me, `Go; I will send you far away to the Gentiles.'" 22 The crowd
listened to Paul until he said this. Then they raised their voices and shouted,
"Rid the earth of him! He's not fit to live!" 23 As they were
shouting and throwing off their cloaks and flinging dust into the air,
24 the commander ordered Paul to be taken into the barracks. He directed
that he be flogged and questioned in order to find out why the people were
shouting at him like this. 25 As they stretched him out to flog him,
Paul said to the centurion standing there, "Is it legal for you to flog a
Roman citizen who hasn't even been found guilty?" 26 When the
centurion heard this, he went to the commander and reported it. "What are
you going to do?" he asked. "This man is a Roman citizen."
27 The commander went to Paul and asked, "Tell me, are you a Roman
citizen?" "Yes, I am," he answered. 28 Then the commander
said, "I had to pay a big price for my citizenship." "But I was
born a citizen," Paul replied. 29 Those who were about to question
him withdrew immediately. The commander himself was alarmed when he realized
that he had put Paul, a Roman citizen, in chains. 30 The next day, since
the commander wanted to find out exactly why Paul was being accused by the
Jews, he released him and ordered the chief priests and all the Sanhedrin to
assemble. Then he brought Paul and had him stand before them.

mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of
Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never
perish, spoil or fade--kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are
shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be
revealed in the last time.
Luke 18: 10-14
10 He said, "The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God has
been given to you, but to others I speak in parables, so that, "`though
seeing, they may not see; though hearing, they may not understand.' 11
"This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God.
12 Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes
and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be
saved. 13 Those on the rock are the ones who receive the word with joy
when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the
time of testing they fall away. 14 The seed that fell among thorns
stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by
life's worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature.
